About

The Toil of Man is a minimalist cooking blog.  You won’t find long stories about how a recipe will change your life, emotionally charged narratives, or other hyperbolic drivel; just simple recipes for good, satisfying food.

We focus on recipes that are delicious yet affordable and make as much as possible from scratch.  Some are gourmet, some are simple, others are for the cost effective use of leftovers.  As a man who does the majority of cooking for our family, I have found that you don’t have to have a large budget to eat well if you look for ingredients that are on sale and have a spark of creativity.

We live on a farmstead in central KY, named God’s Country Farms, where we raise cattle, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, and goats.  This allows us to control the quality of our meat and eggs, and a life spent closer to God’s creation just seems like a more sane and authentically human way to live.
